On Day 1 of the CMCA Catalyze Programme: Prof. Dr. Lata Krishnan introduced the resource persons Ms. Brinda Ganesh and Ms. Parinda Kenia to the students of S.Y.B.Com. She mentioned the long association of the college with CMCA’s Youth Wing and the interesting workshop series organized by them for the college every year. The objective was to understand civic rights and citizenship. The initiative was to reach out to the youth of the country studying in colleges through their Catalyze Program for Youth led Transformative Action.

Ms. Brinda Ganesh introduced the new resourceperson Ms. Parinda Kenia who was going to conduct all the sessions. A questionnaire was circulated where students were asked questions regarding civic rights and citizenship. This was to gather information about the knowledge of the group that was going to attend the workshop series.

The students introduced themselves and there was an icebreaker game. After this two groups of students were taken down to the entrance of the college and asked to survey the surroundings. The students recorded some of the issues pertaining to construction debris and digging at the entrance of the campus.

On Day 2 of the CMCA Catalyze Programme: A complaint was registered with the BMC Bombay Municipal Corporation regarding the stones placed on the road and the rubble and stones at the entrance of the monorail construction site outside the college entrance. A positive reply was received after two calls and the complaint number registered was 8591630619.

On Day 3 of the CMCA Catalyze Programme: The session was on gender based violence. The experience was an eye opener for the resource person Ms. Parinda Kenia and the students when many students came out with their experiences. A few boys said that there is violence against men too! This became an interesting topic for discussion among the students. In the end they concluded saying that while violence against men was prevalent, there are many more instances and a larger number of cases of violence against women. Students shared their experiences to justify the reason behind their statement. The session was a full house as there was maximum attendance in this session.

On Day 4 of the CMCA Catalyze Programme: The students submitted their project on the theme of the workshop series and topics discussed. They were asked to interact with their neighbours and friends and get responses from them on the topic of gender based violence. Ms. Parinda Kenia invited Prof. Dr. Lata Krishnan and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anaya Markandeya for the project presentations. Students came up to the stage confidently and shared their activities and findings. It was an interesting interactive session.

On Day 5 of the CMCA Catalyze Programme: The students gathered excitedly as it was their last session followed by the valedictory ceremony. Both Ms. Brinda Ganesh and Ms. Parinda Kenia were present. They were joined by Prof. Dr. Lata Krishnan and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anaya Markendeya. Principal Dr. Eknath Zhrekar was present for this session. Feedback forms were distributed to all the students to gather information from the students regarding the CMCA Catalyze series. The questions aimed at mapping the transformation in youth thinking and attitude through the workshop series. Students were invited to share their reflections and many of them came forward to express their feelings and learnings from the programme. It was heartening to see that the programme had been not only well received but also helped students understand their civic rights and responsibilities. It helped them become responsible citizens by being the change makers.

Certificates were awarded to all the participants. Principal Dr. Eknath Zhrekar thanked the CMCA Catalyze team for their efforts in conducting a successful workshop series for the S.Y.B.Com. students of the college.

Photographs were taken and the students left happily
