The NSS Unit of Mahatma Night Degree College of Arts and Commerce organized a cleanliness drive under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan within the college campus and surrounding areas. The initiative was conducted with active participation from NSS volunteers, faculty members, and students, reflecting a strong commitment towards maintaining cleanliness and promoting social responsibility.
The programme began with a brief introduction highlighting the objectives of the campaign and the importance of cleanliness in daily life. Volunteers were divided into groups and assigned different areas such as classrooms, corridors, playgrounds, and nearby public spaces. Equipped with cleaning tools like brooms, gloves, and garbage bags, they carried out activities such as sweeping, waste collection, and proper disposal of garbage. They also ensured segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste to promote environmentally responsible practices.
In addition to the physical cleaning activities, the volunteers conducted awareness drives among local residents and shopkeepers. They educated people about maintaining hygiene, avoiding littering, and the harmful effects of plastic waste. Posters and slogans were used to spread the message of cleanliness and to encourage community participation. The volunteers also emphasized the importance of regular sanitation practices and personal hygiene.
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, launched with the vision of making India clean and open defecation free, plays a vital role in improving public health, reducing the spread of diseases, and enhancing the overall quality of life. Clean surroundings not only create a healthy environment but also contribute to the dignity and well-being of individuals. The campaign promotes behavioral change among citizens, encouraging them to take responsibility for their surroundings.
Through this activity, students developed a sense of civic duty, teamwork, and environmental awareness. The cleanliness drive was not only a practical effort to improve the surroundings but also a meaningful step towards building a cleaner and healthier society. Overall, the programme was successful in spreading awareness and inspiring both students and the local community to actively participate in keeping their environment clean.
